SOCIOLOGY OF VIOLENCE

Instructions. Answer all questions. Your response must be at least 125 words in length. Some discussions may require more than 125 words to adequately answer the questions. Make sure you respond to three other students’ posts. 

Go to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Intimate Partner Survey and find the report summarizing the results from the most recent National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (last updated with 2017 data).

Answer the following question:

1. Using this publication as a resource, discuss how the findings from this survey did or did not conform to what you believed about rape victimizations before you read this chapter and this publication.

POLITICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Have a chat with a friend, family member, neighbor, significant other, or co-worker about this week’s readings on Behavioral Economics.

Break down the basic tenets of behavioral economics to this person, making sure to differentiate it from traditional models of economics (e.g., homo economicus). Explain to this individual the core concepts of prospect theory, utility maximization vs. satisficing, and bounded rationality. What are their thoughts?

Introduce to them the ideas of time discounting, asymmetrically dominated choice, sunk cost fallacy, norms of reciprocity, and other main concepts contained within this week’s readings. Were they accepting or critical of these psychological phenomena? Did either of you draw to mind any relevant, real-world examples? Did this activity spark any interesting conversations between the two of you? Share any notable insights you and your friend had while engaging in this discussion.

PHYSIOLOGIAL PSYCHOLOGY

Answer the following questions as completely as possible. 

1. List at least 5 ways that cones and rods differ.

2. In 6 to 8 sentences, compare and contrast the two major theories of color vision.

3. Trace the route of visual information from the retina (5 layers) through the cerebral cortex (in the occipital lobe).
